MOUNTAINBIKE GRINDELWALD
Trails AROUND THE Jungfrau region
MORE ABOUT MOUNTAINBIKE
Cultural highlights abound in the Jungfrau region. We would be delighted to help you make your choices or prepare your trip. In summer in particular, barely a week goes by without one event or another. The UNESCO World Heritage Site Jungfrau Aletsch, the forts, castles and churches at Thunersee and the Ballenberg open air museum are well worth a visit. We are very pleased to recommend just a few highlights:
CULTURAL EXPERIENCES MADE IN BERN
The Open Air Museum has over 100 original buildings on show from all parts of Switzerland, as well as native farm animals, original gardens and meadows. Traditional handcrafts are also on display.
Open from April to October
For over 15 years musical productions from around the world as well as highly respected domestic productions have been performed at Thunersee each summer, against the backdrop of the UNESCO-listed mountain landscape of Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau. In summer 2018 the musicians of Thun put on the musical MAMMA MIA! featuring ABBA hits performed for the first time as an open air production and in Swiss German. 2019 will see a production of ‘Ich war noch niemals in New York’ with songs by Udo Jürgens.
Every year from the start of July until the end of August
Every summer since 1991 the Open Air Theatre Company of Ballenberg has put on theatrical pieces in the Open Air Museum. These productions are carefully planned and produced in collaboration with the museum. The area of land on which the theatre is erected changes according to the theme of the selected piece. The covered stands can seat around 750 visitors.
Every year from the start of July until the middle of August
Since 1912 Friedrich Schiller’s drama has been performed in Rugen bei Matten. In an unbroken run interrupted only during the two World Wars, this Upper Bern success story has been part of our cultural heritage for over 100 years. No work in literary history has been so influential on the culture of the Swiss people as ‘Wilhelm Tell’ and no other stage is able to evoke Swiss history with the same authenticity as the Interlaken Tellspiele. More than 2 million visitors have already enjoyed the spectacular scenery of this very special theatre!
